Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The 1,600 guests will listen to a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Focusing on Compassion and Love
The central message of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Music and Opportunity
Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Among the guests will be people from various age groups.
That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for food banks.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.
Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
