Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had led observers to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He defended four early opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
