Yet nothing as characteristic. No previous president would have dared β truly, no former commander would have imagined β independently wrecking large sections of the presidential residence in order to erect a royal-themed celebration hall, with the enthusiastic participation of numerous the nation's most affluent, the majority of whom have business with federal agencies.

As confusing as it is to witness the leader attempt to overturn the traditional concept about democracy and replace it with its polar opposite, there is one large group within America who wouldn't consider it totally unfamiliar. That is those of us β within elder demographics close to half β who were brought up as mainline Protestant Christians.
We have observed over the years as rightwing evangelical churches converted the Savior we were raised with into exactly the opposite of our understanding of him. Essentially, they turned a figure of affection into a figure of hostility who endorses precisely the cruelties that he condemned in the Gospel; this change developed more slowly, through multiple decades as opposed to months, yet it remains disconcerting in the same ways, a disorienting gut punch for countless people.
A Toxic Christianity Establishes Itself
Therefore allow me to outline the Christ from my upbringing, because theoretically Jesus is the center of any Christian faith, and because the rapidly expanding group within America could have minimal awareness about him since they are skeptics or agnostics or religiously unaffiliated. I take no issue with these different approaches, nor with different religions; but I do think that contain precious wisdom of great price in the Christian story.

The apparent and direct truth that the Savior from scripture calls for a kind of extreme compassion concentrated on the poor has perpetually caused the Christian faith rather a controversial faith: attractive to the masses, but owing to its intrinsic extremism requiring to be contained. In the fifties it was contained through watering down β The Protestant faith was so widespread that it practically sanctified existing conditions.
A Conflict for the Highest Within Us
So I have been heartened to see the steadfast resistance to Trump emerge over the last twelve months. It has served as substantial consolation to assist in constructing the movement that has taken to the streets through repeated demonstrations, and appears to have motivated citizens to turn out in large quantities in interim political contests.
